If I may, escalators are specially designed so that you don't walk them up or down !
Steps are intentionally awkwardly high to make it very unpleasant to walk. It is much higher than a standard stair step, which is an average comfortable height.
I am not sure why they do that, I think that every step you walk on an escalator might act as a load transient for the motors, which they don't really like.
So I guess escalator design engineers would be most grateful if you avoided walking up and down and just enjoyed the ride
