For those of you in Week 1 Regionals, how did it go? What did you learn? How did your robots fare?
Our team participated in the inaugural local Central Illinois Regional, which was full with a full complement of 40 robots - and of them only one rookie team.
Woodie Flowers was in town for the kick off, which was great. I was able to represent PTC at the breakfast meeting with Woodie and many Cat executives (Cat is a sponsor of many teams in the area). PTC had at least 3 sponsored teams in attendance (including us).
We were as high as 7th in qualifying, but ended up in the middle teens after 3 losses the 2nd day. We were picked on the 6th seed alliance and won through to the finals against the #1 alliance (who hadn't lost a match yet and had an OPR of something like double ours).
We won 140-something to 70-something in the first match. Lost by a narrow margin in the 2nd. Then lost by 9 in the 3rd. So we ended up 2nd. A great job by all the students, I'm proud of them.
We have some work to do before the next regional. If you have not built a tough robot then you need to think about strategy, modifications, or both.
